Shell Ginger (Alpinia zerumbet) — Tropical Perennial Plant

Shell ginger is a stunning tropical perennial that brings lush, architectural beauty to any space. Its long, glossy green leaves—available in solid or variegated forms with yellow and cream stripes—create dramatic vertical interest. Drooping clusters of pearly white and pink, seashell-shaped flowers add an exotic touch and release a mild, pleasant ginger-like fragrance when crushed.

This plant grows 8 to 10 feet tall outdoors in warm climates, or stays compact at 3 to 4 feet when potted indoors. It thrives in full sun to partial shade outside, or bright, indirect light indoors. Water regularly to maintain evenly moist soil, but avoid waterlogging. Perfect for tropical gardens, conservatories, or as a dramatic indoor focal point for those seeking a statement plant with both foliage and flower appeal.
